Affecting an estimated 2 billion people, iron deficiency is the most common mineral deficiency worldwide.

In Australia, research has shown that up to 26% of young women (15-30 yrs) had low iron stores and 6% were anaemic (ref: Rangan A. Blight G. Dieticians Association Poster, School of Public Health, Curtin University of Technology, Perth, WA).

It is estimated that up to 51% of women complete a pregnancy with much depleted iron reserves and that up to 50% of female vegetarians are low in iron (ref: Roodenburg A. Eur J Obstet Gynecol Reprod Biology. 1995. 61,65-71).
